Review of Art Exhibition

On the 9th of December, we put up our first exhibition. All the year 9's who take Art GCSE had to participate in this event, by making a piece of recycled art. We used different recycled items like bandages, tin cans, glass and even clothes.

This was my piece:

Work from other people:

Made out of cassette tape.

Made out of old magazines and tissue paper.

Made out of greenery.

Made out of tissue paper and buttons.

Made out of tin can tops, CD'S and sweet wrappers.

My overall favourite piece is:

Exhibition Piece

In class, we had to make our exhibition piece for the exhibition for everybody to see.
We had approximately 3 weeks to make it. For my piece, I decided to have a cardboard
box, with birds coming out of a book inside the box.

I was inspired to do my exhibition piece, as our teacher gave us a website- http://www.funforever.net/archives/dont-try-this-at-home/
This was the picture that inspired me, I could not find the artist though-

I made this because I liked the idea of butterflies flying out of the book.
I think because of the butterflies, this piece reminded me of peace.
So for my piece, I decided to make it quite peaceful, so I made the background
blue which reminds me of peace.

But, for my piece, I didn't do exactly the same as the artist.
Instead of butterflies, I made cranes/birds coming out of the book using
the pages of the old book I got from Oxfam books.
Also, instead of leaving the background plain, I decided to collage it blue
using magazines etc.

This was my final outcome:

To make this, all I really needed was pieces of magazine, a cardboard box, a book and some string.
I made the background by using small pieces of blue from the magazine and stuck it down on the box, on all the sides. Once that was dry, I ripped a few pages from the back of the book, and made it into cranes. I searched on google to see how to make the cranes. I attached the crane to somes string, and stuck it on the inside of the box. I placed some of the cranes facing upwards, so it looked like they were coming out of the book. I also ripped some parts of the middle of the book, to look the like the cranes had just ripped out of the page.

Overall, I am quite pleased with my exhibition piece as I put quite alot of effort into collaging the background. I also like the way I made the cranes out of the book. However, I know I already spent alot of time collaging the background, but It was quite scruffy as parts of it were sticking out- so next time, I just add more glue to it, to make it look  more smooth.
